Cooper was adopted and returned due to personal problems. He is a good boy but is stressed being back in the shelter environment. He has lived with children but has not been around dogs. When we place Cooper into doggy playgroup, he sits by the gate to exit. Our ACO?s report he chooses not to play with the other dogs and has not shown aggression towards any dogs.
A year ago, when Cooper was a 4 month old pup, his people surrendered him for no time and cost. After he spent 3 days at the Staten Island ACC, those same people came and got him back. Now fast forward 12 months, and Cooper is right back at the same shelter because of his owner?s ?personal problems?. But now Cooper is not a cute little pup; now he?s 1 ½ years old and totally confused about where he?s supposed to be. The entire shelter experience is terrifying to him and he has no idea of how he?s supposed to behave. We learn he lived in harmony with children but had little exposure to other dogs. Indeed, in play group he just doesn?t seem to know how to join in the play and sits on the sideline. He?s sensitive to all these strangers trying to touch him for things like the ?squeeze? but if its somebody he ?knows? (another worker at shelter), he wants that person?s attention and petting. Can we say again?Cooper is terrified! Cooper needs to find that one person who understands how scary this whole ordeal has been for him, who looks at that picture of him on his back lovin? those belly rubs, and who knows that with some decompression time and lots of reassurance and exposure to all the good doggie things in life, Cooper will be a wonderful addition to any household. He?s ready to be a new bff for a human---a human who will care for him and who will stick with him. If that?s you, start working with rescues to foster or or adopt him
